Whats the T Christine? Afternoon tea at Marco Pierre White Birmingham…

Updated: Sep 11, 2020

What’s a good way to feel all fancy and lady-like? Put on a cute dress and go for afternoon tea of course.

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse bar and grill is located on 25th floor of the cube and is not just a restaurant, it's an experience. I have visited the bar for cocktails on the terrace loads of times, its one of my favourite places to go but had never actually eaten there before. Its modern and stylish décor inside and floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views of the city makes every visit feel like a special occasion. It's just been afternoon tea week and I love a theme as much as the next girl so I decided to get my fancy grown up head on, stick my pinky in the air and book one at Marco Pierre White.

We arrived for our table booking and were shown straight to our table by the professional and friendly staff. Our table was next to the huge window with an amazing view and comfy chairs. Our waiter came over within a couple of minutes, introduced himself and asked if we had an dietary requirements. We both eat pretty much anything so it wasn’t an issue for us but the table next to us didn’t like something on the menu and they were happy to change it for something else for them. Our waiter bought us a glass of Bottega prosecco within a couple of minutes and our afternoon tea was bought out shortly after.

The afternoon tea consists of sandwiches, scones and a selection of cakes. The sandwiches included smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber, ham and mustard and beef and horseradish. The bread was soft and fresh and the sandwiches were all delicious. The scones were still warm from the oven and came with fresh cream and strawberry jam.

The highlight had to be the cake selection which included cute macarons, the most delicious strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake, a light and airy sachertorte and the best carrot cake I have ever tasted. The portion sizes of the cakes are really generous compared to other afternoon teas I have been to and all delicious and really good quality.

Our waiter was very attentive and checked regularly if we wanted anything else, we were enjoying the view and atmosphere so we decided to order a some cocktails. We ordered a love island iced tea which was really nice and refreshing and a mojito which is always one of my favourites. The service was really good and even though the restaurant and afternoon tea is quite popular we didn’t feel rushed for the table. We decided to move the terrace and had a gorgeous strawberry daiquiri while looking over the city.

The prosecco afternoon tea is available between 12pm and 4pm daily, costs £24.95 per person and you get quite a lot for your money. The food was all nice, fresh and really good quality. There is an optional 10% service charge which was added to the bill, the service was excellent so we were happy to pay. The venue adhered to covid 19 safety guidelines, we were asked to sanitise our hands before entering the lift, there is a one way system and tables were far apart for social distancing and all of the staff were wearing masks.

I really enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely be back again soon. It was one of the best afternoon teas I have had and as usual the cocktails were excellent. Definitely a Friday done right.
